Clay | workshop

Unfired clay and its possibilities for contemporary architecture has been already discovered by architects such as Herzog & de Meuron (Ricola Kräutertentrum) or Tadashi Saito (Zenkonyu Spa).

You can discover how this material can be used in architecture at a workshop on unfired clay from Friday to Sunday 25. – 27. September 2020 at the FA BUT courtyard. After a bit of design theory you will mainly try working with clay in practice and test the possibilities of various technology, whether in the construction of steamed clay or unfired bricks. You will design and make an element of clay building at the courtard of the faculty.

Workshop capacity is 6 – 12 students, application deadline is 31.8.2020, email for applications: xaneumayerova@fa.vutbr.cz

 When: 25. – 27. 9. 2020

Where: FA BUT Brno

Team of lecturers: Bohdan Nebesař – lecturer for working with clay structures,  Eva Neumayerová and Lenka Bažík, architects and Ph.D. students – theory and practice of unfired clay in architecture

Schedule:

Friday (cca from 12 am) – Theoretical basis for the use of unfired clay in architecture and practical testing of material

Saturday: Practical teaching of clay techniques (stamping, clay brick, layering) and design of clay element

Sunday: Creative team creation – realization of the designed element

The workshop is held with the financial support of the Faculty of architecture, Brno University of Technology
