The reconstruction of the footbridge in Prudká won the Wooden Building of the Year award
Zdeněk Vejpustek from the Faculty of Architecture at BUT won 1st place in the category of Large Wooden Structures (realization) of the Wooden Building of the Year competition. The expert jury was fascinated by his solution for the reconstruction of the wooden footbridge in Prudká. "The goal was to preserve as much of the historic wood as possible, so only the degraded part was removed very carefully and healthy wood was attached to the healthy wood with prostheses together with a copy of the original carpenter's joint." stands in the description of the winning project. The footbridge connects the railway line and the road towards Doubravník in the valley of the Sokolí skála nature reserve. Its origin is dated from 1899, when it was built by the master carpenter Jan Nejez from Železný for the owners of a nearby paper and cardboard factory so that its employees could come to the newly built railway. The footbridge has been a protected monument since 1994 and belongs to a small group of preserved wooden bridges in the Svratka river basin. To this day, the footbridge provides access from the Prudká train station. More information about the competition and other awarded projects find here.
