Students of FA BUT present urban designs for Olomouc at the exhibition
On Wednesday, June 9, 2021, from 5 pm, a completely extraordinary exhibition will open directly in the premises of the closed former Faculty of Science of Palacký University in the very center of Hejčín.
As part of the Triennial of Contemporary Art SEFO 2021, the result of the year-round efforts of students of the Department of Experimental Creation of the Brno Faculty of Architecture, the studio of architect Szymon Rozwałka, known to the people of Olomouc as a co-author of the popular Villa na silo, will be exhibited here. A year ago, Rozwałka and his students accepted the invitation of the Olomouc Revision Vision Discussion Platform and revised the urbanism of "Middle Hejčín". "This is a valuable but neglected area in the lucrative area of ??the urban-friendly and congested Hejčín," describes the initial situation of Martina Mertová from the association "Za krásnou Olomouc". "At the same time, we are within walking distance of the center, in the immediate vicinity of several school buildings, in the middle of a traditional city district, on one of the last undeveloped plots."
With the exception of the 2011 territorial study, there was still no vision of what functions this space should perform and the unused building was destined for demolition. "The Hejčín district commission immediately understood the importance of such an initiative and supported it financially from its own resources," explains KMČ Hejčín chairwoman Zuzana Koutná. "We were thrilled with the interest with which the Brno students dealt with a specific Olomouc locality, which is usually only the subject of complaints about congested intersections, noise and smog. Where the commission addresses only current and future traffic disasters without prospects for improvement, students saw the potential of a new community space, a healthy and welcoming urban oasis, another center of hejčín life, "adds Commission member Andrea Hanáčková after students presented the results of their work in April directly at the commission meeting.
Now, the results of the student's two-semester work can be assessed by the lay and professional public. On 9 June (at 5 pm), 16 June (from 6 pm) and 24 June (from 2 pm), the doors of the otherwise inaccessible former Faculty of Science will open and there will be guided tours of the building, presentations of a possible future form Střední Hejčín and an interactive model, the form of which can be influenced by the visitors themselves. "The Re-Vision initiative seeks to instil in competent people a new perspective on an unsolved problem, object or specific location for years. We believe that the current exhibition will open a wider discussion about the future of this crucial city plot and will actively involve locals in it as well, ”adds Martina Mertová, thus playfully confirming the playfully provocative student title of the whole project: Hey-act!
