Additive manufacturing course
A week before the beginning of the semester, we have prepared a 3D modeling and additive manufacturing course for you, which is for complete beginners and advanced students. You will learn how to make a 3d model using NURBS / POLYGONAL modeling. Also, how to prepare and print a model or build a 3d printer. It is not mandatory to complete the week-long course, you can sign up (rezervace@fa.vutbr.cz), for any block of the course you want according to your interest. (minimum number is 5 participants/block)
Rhinoceros
1. - Day 2
The course will be focused on modeling in the Rhinoceros7 program from the very beginning. We will deal with drawing curves, solids, creating surfaces (nurbs/mesh). Editing and working with objects. The purpose of the course is to familiarize participants with the basics of nurbs / polygonal modeling. Editing models for multiple purposes (low-poly, mid-poly, high-poly). Data preparation for other professions. Formats and property transfer.
1. day:
- familiarization with the user environment, useful links, the most used commands
- basic laws of NURBS modeling
- basic operations of tool palettes
- creation of simple models
< u>2nd day:
- summary of the previous day
- basic laws of MESH modeling

Grasshopper
3. - 4th day
Workshop focused on the basics of 2D and 3D modeling through a graphic programming language in the Rhinoceros environment of the Grasshopper add-on. The purpose of the workshop is to become familiar with the environment, basic tools and laws of programming. In the subsequent part, an insight into the way of working with the flow of data, their sorting and categorization.
Preliminary program of the workshop:
3. day:
- familiarization with the user environment, useful links, the most used commands
- basic laws of programming, data flow, sequence of scripts
- loading data, GH data vs Rhinoceros data, basic operations
- build a simple script
4. day:
- summary of the previous day
- Planes and working with them
- palette Sets (data), reading, sorting
- reshaping data trees, restoring data trees, using them when of more complex operations
- additional palettes (anemone, karamba, pufferfish, archicad, etc..)

3. - 4th day
Workshop focused on building a 3d printer for beginners. The participant will learn how FDM technology works, what are its advantages and disadvantages. The most common problems and their quick fix. Material options for FDM printing, modification of printed models. Setting up the model and working with data.
Blender
5. - 6th day
Workshop focused on the basics of polygonal 3d modeling, experimental modeling and visualization in the Blender program. It includes familiarization with the user environment, the basic principles of 3-dimensional computer graphics and the principles of polygonal modeling. In the second part, we will focus on advanced to experimental modeling techniques, various principles of working with 3D data and show the basics of rendering.
