Bohuslav Fuchs Awards
Brno, May 26, 2022 – Last Thursday, the Bohuslav Fuchs Awards were handed out for the 23rd time at the Faculty of Architecture at the Brno University of Technology . Just as Bohuslav Fuchs was an architect and urban planner, the award named after him recognizes not only architectural designs for buildings, but also urban planning projects. Awards were given to three projects and three school studios, the jury consisted of Ivo Stejskal, Ľubomír Závodný, Lívia Gažová, Filip Šenk and students Tereza Jančová and Tomáš Müller.
More than experience in the field, he plays in role-sensitive or progressive approach to competition. It is not unusual for first-year students to be among the winning projects. This year, first-year student Michaela Šimanská from the school studio Foretník+Joja was among the youngest awardees. On her design Little Big House, the jury praised the author's exploration of glass and its use to erase boundaries.

Other awards students Anna Kabeláčová, Filip Sovíček and Vít Šarišský from the second year, on the other hand, devoted themselves to the urban project Świnoujście 2+, which monitored the impact of climate change on the landscape in the Polish resort. They created their work in the Rozwałka school studio.
Also in the third award-winning project, third-year students Petra Hanušová and Natálie Laníková did not design buildings. The name Poříčí in a nutshell hid the non-violent transformation of the park in the small village of Poříčí in the Svitavy region.

The notional winner of the evening was the Rozwałka school studio. Not only was one of the award-winning works created within it, but the entire studio was subsequently voted among the three best of the entire faculty. The other students also addressed the issue of sustainability and the environment, and the jury highlighted the boldly assigned topics.

As part of the competition, a special Xella prize was also awarded to Johana Dostálová for her design of a multifunctional block in Louny.

All term papers are exhibited in the building of the Faculty of Architecture of the BUT on Poříčí Street. They will be open to the public until Thursday as part of the FAstival, during which visitors can also see, for example, a beach with a swimming pool that the students built in the courtyard.
The Bohuslav Fuchs Prize is awarded twice a year to students of the BUT Faculty of Architecture for the best semester papers. The independent jury is made up of personalities from other schools and student representatives. In addition to the best papers, the best school papers are also evaluated studios.
