Pawnshops as curated collections - guided tour with Prokop Matěj
In pawnshops we find people's memories
and their stories. After the historical places of pawnshops and the current ones
architect Prokop Matěj will guide you through the curated collections of artefacts in the bazaars
on Sunday, April 23 from 3:00 p.m. The walk as part of Brno Art Week will begin
in front of the 45,000 l gallery, where the exhibition Pawnshops: Marginal Places is currently underway

he is following up on his thesis research. The roots of the typology of places where
a small financial loan is exchanged for a pledge with interest, they extend to Italy in
15th century. From the original Christian institutions they transformed into
of a pathological phenomenon, as a rule, segregated society. Sites functional today
Brno's bazaars and pawnshops are copied by former industrial peripheries, and although
are in the immediate vicinity of the historical center of Brno, they are often marked
as socially excluded areas.

major in architecture and urban planning at CTU in Prague and TU in Delft. During the study and
subsequently, after his graduation, he completed several architectural internships in
domestic and foreign studios, among others in the studio JRKVC (SK), Schenker
Salvi Weber (AT), or Consequence Form (CZ) from Brno.
