Klarisa Ach-Hübner Among Europe’s Emerging Talents: Her Diploma Project Shines in the EUmies Awards Young Talent 2025
When the shortlist for the EUmies Awards Young Talent 2025 competition was announced, it included the name of our graduate Klarisa Ach-Hübner, who succeeded with her diploma project Continuity of Ageing. Being selected among the 35 best student projects in Europe represents a significant professional achievement and confirms the high quality of her design and the strong academic standards of our faculty. Her project Continuity of Ageing combines sensitivity, insight and the courage to address a topic that concerns all of us, yet often remains on the margins of public discussion. The very beginning of the work resembled a narrative — a story that emerged from a single fundamental question: what if we began to perceive ageing not only as a biological process, but also as a way of life that deserves space, attention and dignity? Klarisa visited care homes, meeting people who spend the final stage of their lives in environments that often impose more restrictions than possibilities. She listened to their voices, recorded their rituals, and observed the subtle details of everyday life that hold immense value for individuals at this stage. Her methodology was not solely technical; it was profoundly human. Observation intertwined with interviews, spatial analysis blended with the analysis of emotions, and together they formed a holistic approach showing how architecture can shape the experience of ageing.

From these insights emerged a design that understands a care environment as a place of life rather than an institution. Continuity of Ageing works with the idea of preserving everyday rhythms, small rituals and human connections. In her approach, architecture does not divide but connects; it does not impose, but offers. It creates a setting where light, greenery, movement and choice are not luxuries, but essentials. The project challenges existing models of long-term care and demonstrates that even within the framework of a diploma thesis, it is possible to open a topic of social significance that reaches far beyond academia.
Klarisa Ach-Hübner’s work shows that architecture can play a key role in exploring new models of care and in cultivating environments that support dignified aging. The project Continuity of Ageing contributes meaningfully to the professional discourse on the future of this field and confirms that high-quality architectural design can significantly influence the shape of social services and the quality of life of their users. Being shortlisted for the EUmies Awards Young Talent 2025 is an exceptionally prestigious success not only for the author herself but also for the Faculty of Architecture at Brno University of Technology, which is thereby further strengthening its position on the European map of leading faculties fostering innovative thinking in architecture.
