Get a head start on your studies at BUT: Applications for the Předškolovák program are open
The first days at university can be full of excitement as
well as uncertainty. But what if you could start your first semester with a
group of friends and have experienced students by your side to guide you?
That's exactly what Předškolovák offers! It helps future BUT students get to
know their classmates, find their way around university life, and gain valuable
advice before the academic year even begins. Registration for this year's
edition is still open!

Předškolovák is the only official orientation event for
incoming first-year students at Brno University of Technology. This year marks
its 16th edition and taking place in two four-day sessions 20–23 August and
23–26 August at Vranovská pláž campsite. "It's the best orientation event
you can attend before starting university. I met my future classmates and had
an amazing time," said Tatiana, who took part last year.
More than just an orientation camp
Besides helping participants make new friends, the main goal
of Předškolovák, which attracts around 800 incoming students every year
according to the organisers, is to make the transition from secondary school to
university as smooth as possible.
Participants meet classmates from their study programme,
receive practical advice from senior students, and learn how studying at Brno
University of Technology really works. They get familiar with the BUT
Information System, learn about Erasmus+ study opportunities abroad, and meet
representatives of student organisations and project teams they can join at any
point during their studies.

"Each group has its own instructor who accompanies
participants throughout the event and helps them with practical questions about
studying, university life, and living in Brno," explained organiser Martin
Hemza, a graduate of Faculty of Information Technology BUT.
Four days full of unforgettable experiences
The programme combines ice-breaking and team-building
activities, workshops, and sports. Future students can look forward to
activities such as Swing Jump, bumperball, water football, silent disco, a Na
Stojáka stand-up comedy performance, a tour of a hydroelectric power plant,
evening parties with a DJ, a traditional campfire, and a spectacular closing
fireworks display.
The programme is organised with the help of dozens of senior student volunteers who show newcomers that university life is about much more than lectures – it's also about community, collaboration, and shared experiences. "At first, I wasn't sure if I should go, but in the end I decided to join and I don't regret it at all. I highly recommend it. You'll meet people you'll share so many experiences with, and you'll have loads of fun. It was amazing!" said BUT student Viktorie.
This year's Předškolovák will take place at Vranovská pláž
campsite in two sessions:
- 20–23 August 2026
- 23–26 August 2026
Participants will stay in cabins, transportation from Brno
by coach is provided, and half board is included throughout the event.
Předškolovák is held under the auspices of the Rector of Brno University of
Technology and with the support of the Student Chamber of the BUT Academic
Senate.
