Sustainable living on the edge
individual and collective space
Dominika Vasková,
supervision: Ing. arch. Radek Toman, Ph.D.
The aim of the work is the creation of sustainable housing on the neglected plot of the former football field on Červený kopec in Brno Stýřice. The main qualities of the area – forest, trees and shrubs penetrate the strict structure of houses and become part of everyday life of the inhabitants. It brings the interconnection of nature - wilderness and city to the residents, plenty of options for hiding and exploring on a private and community level. The author deals with sustainability as part of her thesis from an environmental and human perspective, defines a community manifesto and discusses issues of home and intimacy.
Fortress, Pohořelice library near Brno,
park
Markéta Soukalová,
supervision: Ing. arch. Marek Štěpán
Library design works with the motif of a safe space - a fortress. With the motif of common space, where people come together and discover new things and make new friendships. The library thus becomes a wonderful place for gaining energy and knowledge. The book has power to enrich a person and can captivate and not let go for a good while. The object can be like a book, it can absorb a person and tells him/her a story; a small new world is created like in the book. It is a world in which many other unexplored worlds are hidden.
Theatre on the exhibition grounds
Bc. Martin Ďurčovič,
supervision: doc. Ing. arch. Ivo Boháč, Ph.D.
Legendary theater pavilion at the Brno exhibition grounds by architect Emil Králík is currently experiencing both static and operational issues. The Proposal of renovation restores the Genia loci and breathes life into a new, sustainable building program. The main hall with a retractable floor will allow multifunctional use. The program is complemented by a restaurant, newly created apartments, and a rental open space office. The architectural solution minimizes the effects of time on the original cleanliness and brings clearly recognizable modern interventions. The most striking element is the lightweight glass curtain wall that partially encloses the café terrace.
